Dear Mom and Dad,

How are you doing in Florida?  I am doing good up here in Vermont.  Right now I just got done with my homework.  Now I’m cooking dinner.  I’m having hot dogs with fries.

If I Were in Charge of the World

If I Were in Charge of the World

(a form change poem with thanks to Judith Viorst)

If I were in charge of the world,

I’d cancel homework, squash, and also sin.

If I were in charge of the world,

there would be more ice cream, more free remote-controlled cars, and more free B.B. guns.

If I were in charge of the world,

You wouldn’t have school,

You wouldn’t have to clean your room,

And you wouldn’t have people bossing you around.

If I were in charge of the world, ice cream would be a balanced meal.

The Biggest Whiteout!

Posted on by

One day the weatherman said that just a little snow would come. But the weatherman was wrong. It was a huge whiteout! All of the weathermen got together, and they talked about what was wrong. Then they talked to the people and all of a sudden, someone burped, and the whiteout got bigger. They found out the problem. It was the person’s burp! So they locked him in a sealed tube. Then the whiteout got smaller and smaller, and it finally went away.

The Horse Story

N: One day there was a horse called Sally. She had some friends named Jake, Lucy, Jack, and Chase.

Sally: Want to go play in the field?

Jake: Yeah, sure, but what are we going to play? Sally, can we play with your toys?

Sally: I’m sorry. Some ninja took my toys!

Jack: Well, what are we waiting for? Then let’s go find that ninja!

Lucy: Hold onto your ponytails! We are going after that ninja by ourselves!

Jake: Yeah, of course.

N: Then they all went off into the woods.

Chase: There’s the ninja! Get him!

N:  Then they all went racing after the ninja.

Chase: Got him! Where are Sally’s toys?

N: I will show you there right now.

Sally: My toys!

Chase: Finally, we can play.

Jack: Yep, we can definitely play.

Jake: Well, what are we waiting for? Let’s go!

N: After that, they went on playing, and they had lots of fun.

The Mighty Men: a Lewis and Clark Journey

When we just got to the park, we were in the driveway, and Rowan said, “Look! There’s an Indian lady!”

But it was really Miss Blessing’s niece.

Then we settled in. We had to gather some big rocks so Mr. Huebner could build the fire. Then the park ranger set out a tarp so we could sit on it without getting our bottoms wet. They talked about hawks, bear, and owls. Those were really cool.

We went hiking, and we got bags and gathered nature stuff for our sculpture. For my group’s sculpture, we built a teepee on a tree.

Then we had lunch. We had squirrel, bobcat, turkey, and venison. We worked on our sculpture some more after lunch.

Then we split into two groups. In my first group I put my waterproof boots on. We went in a river and looked for water bugs.

Then my group went to the worship by the falls station. It was a great time! I used watercolor paint. I made me on a grassy plain area. At the exact same time, I played a flute. At the end, on the way down the hill, I fell down at least five rocks.

I want to remember when we went with Anthony’s dad to get big tree branches about ten feet long to use to build a camouflage sculpture. It was so tall, we could fit in like a tipi against the tree. We could hardly wait to eat lunch so we could build more!
