A Peek into my Reading Journal

Posted on by

In Curious George Makes Pancakes, there is a monkey named George.  My favorite part of this book is when they go to a pancake breakfast.  I really liked when George tries to make pancakes, but the pancake man caught him.  So he ran away, and he splashed in a bunch of syrup!  He tried to clean it off with a bunch of wipes, but that didn’t work.  Then he went to the tub, and some kid tossed a baseball at it and he went in.  That washed him off.

A Letter

Dear Mom and Dad,

How are you doing in Florida?  I am doing good up here in Vermont.  Right now I just got done with my homework.  Now I’m cooking dinner.  I’m having hot dogs with fries.

If I Were in Charge of the World

If I Were in Charge of the World

(a form change poem with thanks to Judith Viorst)

If I were in charge of the world,

I’d cancel homework, squash, and also sin.

If I were in charge of the world,

there would be more ice cream, more free remote-controlled cars, and more free B.B. guns.

If I were in charge of the world,

You wouldn’t have school,

You wouldn’t have to clean your room,

And you wouldn’t have people bossing you around.

If I were in charge of the world, ice cream would be a balanced meal.

The Biggest Whiteout!

Posted on by

One day the weatherman said that just a little snow would come. But the weatherman was wrong. It was a huge whiteout! All of the weathermen got together, and they talked about what was wrong. Then they talked to the people and all of a sudden, someone burped, and the whiteout got bigger. They found out the problem. It was the person’s burp! So they locked him in a sealed tube. Then the whiteout got smaller and smaller, and it finally went away.

The Horse Story

N: One day there was a horse called Sally. She had some friends named Jake, Lucy, Jack, and Chase.

Sally: Want to go play in the field?

Jake: Yeah, sure, but what are we going to play? Sally, can we play with your toys?

Sally: I’m sorry. Some ninja took my toys!

Jack: Well, what are we waiting for? Then let’s go find that ninja!

Lucy: Hold onto your ponytails! We are going after that ninja by ourselves!

Jake: Yeah, of course.

N: Then they all went off into the woods.

Chase: There’s the ninja! Get him!

N:  Then they all went racing after the ninja.

Chase: Got him! Where are Sally’s toys?

N: I will show you there right now.

Sally: My toys!

Chase: Finally, we can play.

Jack: Yep, we can definitely play.

Jake: Well, what are we waiting for? Let’s go!

N: After that, they went on playing, and they had lots of fun.
